June 18: Jason Mraz receives 2009 Hal David Starlight Award at Songwriters Hall of Fame 40th Anniversary Gala at New York's Marriott Marquis Hotel. Rob Thomas presents the award to Jason joking: "I hate you. You've ruined the curve for everybody. You're kind of young, and you're cute and you're just too talented and I think you should stop."

When accepting the award, Mraz said, "I thought that songwriting either makes you spiritual or a crazy person, and if it's not doing either one of those things then you're doing it wrong. I'm honored to feel like I'm doing it right." He then sang an inspired version of "I'm Yours."
